Application Field and Working Principle ofLM320T-15Introduction:The LM320T-15 is a linear voltage regulator manufactured by National Semiconductor. It provides a 3-terminal, adjustable output voltage regulated power supply with a wide range of adjustable output voltage between 1.2V to 7.2V and a typical output of 3.3V. It is a versatile device which provides a well regulated output at the same time offers a high degree of protection against the power shorts, current spikes and output overvoltage conditions.Application Field:
The LM320T-15 is suitable for battery operated applications such as laptops, PDAs, cellular phones and other portable equipment. Applications include linear voltage regulator supply of 6V, 9V, 12V, 15V or 18V DC straight to the output or when DC/DC conversion is required, the output can be regulated to 1.2V to 7.2V.Moreover, the LM320T-15 is suitable for solar panel or battery power supplies and DC/DC convertors where the output voltage must be regulated to 1.2V to 7.2V and low ripple, noise and thermal drift operation is required. Additionally, the LM320T-15 is also suitable for high-voltage applications with input voltages up to 58V.Working Principle:
The LM320T-15 is a linear voltage regulator employing a three-terminal positive voltage regulator. The LM320T-15 employs National Semiconductor’s advanced linear voltage regulators with superior regulation characteristics.In a typical working operation, the regulator start to operate when the input voltage is greater than the adjustable output voltage selected by a series of resistors. The internal regulator starts to pass current through the transistor and the output voltage Vout is controlled by the controlling circuit.The LM320T-15 is a current limited device, with the current-limiting thresholds set at 220mA and 315mA. Performance Characteristics such as the line regulation, load regulation, temperature coefficient, transient response and power supply rejection ratio, are all within the specification.The operating temperature range of the LM320T-15 -55°C to 158°C. The LM320T-15 is packaged in industry standard SIP3 packages and hermetically sealed version if required.Conclusion:
