1. Describe

The PCA9555AHF,128 is a low-voltage 16-bit general-purpose input/output (GPIO) expander with interrupts and weak pull-up resistors for I2C-bus/SMBus applications. NXP I/O expanders provide a simple solution when additional I/O is required, while keeping interconnections to a minimum, for example, in ACPI power switches, sensors, buttons, LEDs, fan controls, and more. In addition to providing flexible settings for GPIO, the wide VDD range of 1.65 V to 5.5 V allows the PCA9555A to interface with next-generation microprocessors and microcontrollers where supply levels are dropped to save power. The PCA9555A contains the PCA9555 register set of four pairs of 8-bit configuration, input, output and polarity inversion registers. The PCA9555A is a pin-to-pin replacement for the PCA9555 and other industry standard devices. A more comprehensive device, the PCAL9555A, provides agile I/O capabilities. See the appropriate data sheet for details. The PCA9555A open-drain interrupt (INT) output is activated when any input state differs from its corresponding input port register state and is used to indicate to the system host that the input state has changed. INT can be connected to the interrupt input of the microcontroller. By signaling an interrupt on this line, the remote I/O can notify the microcontroller if its port has incoming data without communicating over the I2C bus. Therefore, the PCA9555A can remain a simple slave device. The device output has 25 mA sink capability to directly drive LEDs while consuming low device current. A power-on reset sets the registers to their default values and initializes the device state machine. Weak pull-up resistors are connected to all input/output pins to eliminate external components. Three hardware pins (A0, A1, A2) select a fixed I2C bus address and allow up to eight devices to share the same I2C bus/SMBus.
